it's not only the cheap labor, it's the fact that the entrenched democrat majority knows that CA has reached 'minority' majority status who vote democrat to keep those state provided services coming, so to do anything of substance to reduce the illegal presence there will only hurt their power base, iow, they don't care about the health and welfare of the state, they care about being re-elected

what californians apparently don't get is that if they weren't paying excessive taxes to take care of their 'cheap labor' fence builders, their taxes could be lowered and they could afford to pay a little more for that fence in the backyard<g> and a portion of that money would go back into the state coffers (income taxes) which would spread the tax burden more equally and everyone would be more prosperous

i do agree that CA has been 'freeriding' on cheap illegal labor, but it appears to me that the costs of providing services for that cheap labor has reached it's limit
