' Instant western alienation if they pull it off for a week even, they'll be sucking cash out of us for central Ontario and Quebec where their voter bases are The 1.95/voter subsidy to parties was a replacement for union and corporate donations, even personal contributions are limited now, and it does seem to make it less of a money-grubbing business now ... it's one of those lesser-evil things maybe, and even if you swing to doing away with the subsidy on principle, it was stupid of Harper to do so in such a vindictive way I used to know some people who lived just across the river from Ottawa, the kids went in school groups to observe proceedings, weren't very impressed one time when there was a shouting match, said 'you can't act like that in junior high'
