RW,

So you don't think they should honor their commitments to their former employees?

I have no problem with GM honoring their own commitments with their own money. But GM can't. That's why bankruptcy court needs to decide which commitments can be kept, and how they should be modified.

Who do you think will take up that slack (hint: it's a 9 letter word that starts with "T" and ends with "S"). What about other corps that have benefits and pensions for retiree's, both exec and workers? Dump those as well, or just the ones unions negotiated?

Depends on whether whether the company is solvent.

Why do you think they are overpaid? What do you make an hour? Are you overpaid?

This is what it was in 2006, according to GM:
The total of both cash compensation and benefits provided to GM hourly workers in 2006 amounted to approximately $73.26 per active hour worked. This total is made of two main components: cash compensation ($39.68) and benefit/government required programs ($33.58).
