IMHO, these CDS"s are one of the major causes of the problems that we now are living through. But, I see that they are still trading and being created. IMHO, it is ridiculous to buy protection on an English, or an USA treasury.
If Britain or the USA defaults, than does anyone really think that some two bit operation will be able to honour the protection that they sold?

Same as 87, but then they called it Portfolio insurance.
And this is God knows many times bigger than 87.
