I think some of the animosity is pure jealousy. Women who have raised families and basically given up on high powered careers, see themselves as lacking in motivation when faced with such a relatively young woman who has accomplished as much as Governor Palin has, while simultaneously taking care of a large family.

It really is a remarkable achievement when you consider women do so much of the heavy lifting of child rearing, despite dad changing an occasional diaper and so forth.

Anyone who thinks a rugged outdoorsman like Todd Palin did anything but what he had to when the babies were young is kidding themselves. That's why she has the children with her so often at work, and travelling with her to events.

The glass ceiling many claim exists, is mostly imposed by cultural values and the difficulties of motherhood. Sarah Palin has one of those remarkable abilities to set her own rules and say to those around them, "sorry, I have kids to raise, and yes they are with me" instead of falling into the trappings of corporate norms.
