Hawaii (like Israel which I remember someone else posting about) has the advantage of "no long drives".

Also in the context of an area with very high tourism, and with the tourists going in to the situation anticipating high costs, it might even work to a limited degree.

I wonder what type of vehicles they plan to use. Probably the "souped up golf cart" types. Real electric CARS would be a lot more expensive. Its not like Hawaii has no high speed roads

but I imagine it may have the slowest average driving speed in the US, or at least be close. I've never lived in Hawaii, or even visited, but it doesn't exactly seem like a driver's paradise ("tropical paradise" in the opinions of some but that isn't the same thing.

By removing the battery from the purchase price of electric cars - the most expensive component - Better Place hopes to sell vehicles at prices competitive with their fossil-fueled counterparts.

Its got to be paid for somehow. If its removed from the purchase price, then people have to pay for it in other ways.
