Dentistry is the biggest racket out there.

Erika was having problems last weekend with tooth pain. We treated it with Ibuprofen, but because it continued, I took her in to the dentist. Verdict? Possible, and I stress possible, abscess in a molar that she'd had a large filling in a year or more ago. They started talking root canal. Or... it might just be another molar coming in behind it.

They prescribed antibiotics, but said if they solve the toothache, it's likely an abscess and will need a root canal. I didn't get the 'script filled. Lo and behold! She's not complaining now. Had I done the antibiotics, they'd have interpreted that as an abscess requiring a root canal, to the tune of $1,000+.

Like I said, it's a racket.
