The truth is, wages for UAW members range from about $14 per hour for newly hired workers to $28 per hour for assemblers. That's probably correct. But then you have free healthcare. You have an exceptionally generous pension contribution. You have the jobs back, paid time off because you're having a bad day, and all manner of benefits that normal employees don't have. When you add it all up it amounts to ON AVERAGE $130-150K/year, depending on what you do with past service costs. Do you honestly believe that paying an unskilled assembly line worker $130K is a HEALTHY thing for our country? Is it possible to compete with other nations when we're doing this? Is it fostering the transition of these unskilled workers to jobs with upgraded skills, or are they motivated to sit in their unskilled jobs drawing an unreal paycheck?
