John McCain was a US citizen the moment he was born. He was born of two US citizens. Mexican mothers wo sneak into to US to give birth give birth to children who have Mexican citizenship and a right to US citizenship.

They needed to impugn McCain any way they could. Tis attack also blunted the issue of O'Bama's lack of legal standing to run for President, thus was convenient for them.
