BP, in case you didn't notice, the local yokels in the USA did indeed murder their way into possession of the assets. The Amerindians were murdered a lot. But you are confusing centuries and assets.

The British gave up on the Empire in the 20th century. In the 18th century, they were building it. The assets I meant were not land and possessions created by the locals, but capital assets exported and owned by British citizens and the British parliament aka The Crown [such as roads, railways, buildings, and Victoria Station in Bombay]

The American Empire has killed vastly more people in pursuit of power and profit than ever the British Empire did. Count the dead in Vietnam and Korea for a start. Don't forget Philippines. Check out Iraq.

When the civilized British left various countries to their own devices, the local yokels turned to carnage, including in the USA where there was slavery and bulk murder in civil war. The British were moving against slavery, which did not suit Americans who were partial to it, including Thomas Jefferson et al.

I dare say a lot of American slaves would like to have been British subjects and free than whipped and lynched at the master's pleasure. en.wikipedia.org

Segregation by force, by race, was still going on in the USA when I was aware of things late in the 20th century.

It's good to keep things in perspective.
