Thats a fantasy. No way we could have put massive numbers of troops on the ground that fast - Afghanistan fell in weeks. When we went to war with Iraq - both times - it took months for us to get our troops and equipment in place and prepared for war. And those wars were launched from SA and Kuwait. In the case of Afghanistan, its landlocked, everything has to be flown in and there are limited airports and infrastructure there.

The Afghan-Pak border is long, mountainous and rough. How many troops would it take to seal it? If it could be sealed. The Soviets had massive numbers of troops in Afghanistan for many years and never were able to seal it.

Afghanistan fell in late 2001. We didn't go to war in Iraq till the spring of 2003. Iraq had nothing to do with much of AQ escaping.
