John I would hazard a good guess that the Volt has memory of each charge discharge cycle and even more specifically second by second memory of battery volts, amps, speed, batt temp and a host of other data than can be downloaded every time the vehicle is serviced. The Tesla Roadster has a USB port to download this info and more! When Tesla has better software for the car it can be tweeked at the next service interval of 12 months or 12,000 miles required to maintain the vehicle warrantee. My house up north in the San Juan's that runs almost totally on solar and wind has a charge controller and a "Mate" that keeps daily charge, discharge info in minute detail and I've found that to be very helpful in monitoring the home remotely via Amateur Radio down here in Seattle. regards, Eric
