Sure Obama could have lost or misplaced his personal copy;however, the states rarely lose or misplace original birth certificates. There have been occasions of fire such as in West Virginia that destroyed numerous official records.

In Hawaii, there has been no such occassion since Obama was born.

However; we now find that Virginia has some of those W.Va. records on file because of West Virginia having been previously a part of Virginia until 1863 when W.Va. seceded from Virginia.

In the USA each state has a system for registering births at the time of birth or shortly thereafter.

This dates back to even when people were born at home and not in hospitals as most people are now.

A copy may be obtained by the person whose certificate it is---e.g. when I applied for a passport I had to secure a copy of the "original birth certificate". The passport office was adamant about that.

This is the sad part about this whole controversey. Mr. Obama could produce the copy of the original certificate held by the State of Hawaii; however, he has not.

He needs to be transparent and open and provide full information on the birth and the marriage of his parents.

There is another school of thought on the questions about birth and citizenship--------that the whole controversey was encouraged as a political diversionary tactic by the Democrat Party and Obama's Campaign. If so , it served its purpose in diverting attention away from other issues during the campaign.

Time for Mr. Obama to put this to rest before the Electoral College votes on December 15 to affirm on deny his election.

If he does not, there will forever be a cloud over his Presidency.
