I live in Calgary. Getting an MRI is no problem. A close relative of mine fell and broke their cheekbone. We took her to the hospital and the waiting time was about 2 hours. The doctor ordered an MRI and it was done within the hour. Fortunately it was just a simple fracture.

In the USA OTOH, one would have to worry about insurance coverage, co-payments and deductibles. And the policy is packed with fine print to avoid payment. The insurance co. is packed with BUREAUCRATS paid to reduce costs for the insurance company (that means using the fine print against you) No Canadian is EVER bankrupted by medical bills or denied payment because of "prior condition" or fine print in the policy.

I never hear of anyone being upset about wait times, which are similar to those in the USA.

In Calgary, they're building a nice brand new HUGE hospital. I hope I don't have to use it, but it's nice to know it's there. A few years ago, they opened a HUGE Children's hospital here. Every so once and a while I hear the hospital helicopter whisking an emergency case off to the hospital. It's reassuring that that's available.

We LOVE our system. There's no party supporting a devolution into a USA style private system. You're getting raped by the insurers, drug companies, medical services cos., doctors and private hospitals. For all this raping, you're getting nothing superior to anything here in Canada. Your life expectancy is lower and your infant mortality is higher. You can have your system.
