I have not experienced the present kind of downturn before so I don't have a clue as to what it takes to get the market going again. Even the six month lead time that has been historical with the market is up in the air. Six months from what and when? One thing I can be damn sure of, is the market
makers are executing an anything goes type of market support. Looks like a scorched earth policy is being closely followed.
Maybe we will only have 3500 hedge funds after this process
is all wrung out. I don't know what the requirement is for net capital in the brokerage business today, but I would guess the leverage involved has grown and has become very significant. I know for sure from today's headlines
is with Chris Dodd saying who should be hired or fired, socialism is being shoved down industries throat. All our congressmen are doing is trying shift the blame from their sorry asses. I have read nothing to the effect that Dodd has
refiled his mortgage to a new and lower Cinderella mortgage rate. I can't see where anyone in Congress has "got religion" from all of the disclosures of maleficence. We will see investigation after investigation without anyone from Congress on the hot seat. The payoff's to Republican consulting firms by
Freddie Mae are obscene. The governing of the United States
has become a dirty, dirty business. Maybe we could barrow a
guillotine from the French after the courts are through with
this mess.
