"For the GOP, the Economic Meltdown May Have Happened Just a Wee Bit Early" Over on the RE crash thread, this has been a matter of speculation all through the campaign. The Bush PPT (Plunge Protection Team) had been doing a mighty job of keeping the markets up, despite a relentless assault of bad news. We even traded on the knowledge that the PPT would prop up the markets, especially the financial sector. Paulson in particular seemed willing to do anything to keep the recession from being obvious until after Nov. 4th. I was one of the one's betting he couldn't do it, but there are many wingnut Bush voters on the thread who were sure he could. He couldn't, and didn't. The Bush house of cards economy collapsed, and more than any other single factor, elected Obama.
