If they believed they do the job with a lesser cost in American lives, I don't think any of us should be against that.

The truth of the matter is they believed working with the Northern Alliance was an advantage for them. Until the N.A. balked when they had bin Laden cornered, they had no reason to expect the N.A. would be a problem. They had been very committed to the operation up until that time and there was a very well-established history with them.

This really isn't something to criticize Bush about. It is favorite liberal talking point, but the reality is that there is not a lot to criticize him for on this issue. If you want to criticize about the Iraq war going badly at first, I don't think anyone would take issue with you. Of course, he DID turn it around and WIN the war in Iraq, so he needs to get credit for that, as well.

The win in Iraq will form a platform for democracy in the region and will greatly reduce the future threat of terrorism against the US in future years. Likewise, the win in Afghanistan -- which will happen -- will provide another huge chunk of the region which will be useful in eliminating the threat of terrorism.

On 9/12, Bush said his primary goal would be to prevent future attacks and that is precisely what he has done. The American people have forgotten that. Immediately after 9/11 an FBI counterterrorism expert made the comment that he didn't think they "killed enough people" [on 9/11] to make the American people understand the threat. I agree with him. It is going to take detonation of a nuclear weapon or release of a biological agent or toxin that kills much larger numbers before the Left gets it.
