Mindmeld, how do you figure that? Especially since in the ICE case the motors have been out forever and maintenance is well known, whereas with electric, who knows??? I still maintain that unless battery replacement on something like a Volt comes down to less than 1500 bucks you don't have much of a case. (And based on the current $150 cost for an Li laptop battery, it's highly unlikely that it will).. Unless you got a lemon, modern ICE cars are pretty reliable. That Honda and Celica I owned for 17/18 years had original clutches, engines not touched except for timing belts. Throw in regular oil changes and a coolant change every few years and you should be okay. I suspect a battery change may cost as much as an engine/transmission replacement on an ICE car... And if you own cars like you and I do? Possibly two battery replacements - probably cheaper to junk the car... I agree with your comment on battery tech getting cheaper, but the critical question is how cheap...
