Hong Kong Telecom IMS is waiting for ...
So what are they waiting for? Let's get rolling.
Apparently they are still waiting for government approval.
How long will it take? They're expecting November which
matches the report coming out of Asia BizTech Japan.

Which modem will they use? Well it seems it's more like a
set top box. And my fellow Hong Kong plumber says it's
ATM-25 from NEC which is exactly what I was told last time.
Whether it is CAP or DMT is not clear since it is FTTB rather
than ADSL. Maybe Pat can do some detective work and make a
matched print for us.

As for packet loss/timeouts, I believe you are right, it happens
more into the backbone. If fact one report says packet losses
in the major network exchange points run between 10% to 30%.
But I still have a question, if you are using a painfully slow
modem (say 9600baud) and you access a web site and click on a
page with colorful pictures, the web server spits it out a high
speed into the internet cloud. However at your local CO to your
home you're receiving at 9600 speed. Where does the data stand
waiting as it is being fed into your skinny straw?
