Though still being produced for IBM's low-volume (read: poor yields up to this point) notebooks, it's only a matter of time before IBM improves its yields and develops the read channel electronics to allow the use of these advanced MR heads at higher rotational speeds. This is the point which I believe will be fatal to SEG because it promises to trump SEG's formidable leads in spindle speed, motor technology and interfaces, assuming of course that SEG does absolutely nothing in the areal density front.

I see a good combination here - IBM's density (that sounds weird) and SEG's speed. Since consolidation is the wave of the future, why would we not see consolidation in such a situation? I would imagine a lot of Drive manufacturers getting bought out/buying each other out in the not too distant future. It worked with banks and hotels...
