Oh..I was just calculating the mean estimate on APM, from 12 contributing Silicon Invester analysts...lots of worried folks over there..-G-

Stock picks:

My #1 pick is Hyperion Software (HYSW). They provide accounting and "OnLine Analytical Processing", or OLAP software to 50% of the Fortune 500 companies. HYSW has closed at a new 52 week high in 3 of the last 5 days. It currently sits at 35 (I'm in with call options bought a couple weeks ago). HYSW reports probably tomorrow. If they miss estimates, disregard this pick for the next while, as I'll be re-evaluating in that event.

My #2 pick is Quantum Corp. (QNTM). DLT tape drives provide an estimated 50% of earnings, and DLT continues to grow at +100% annual rate, estimated to keep growing at 100% thru 1998. Half their profits are DD of course, so I don't need to say more about THAT. QNTM just beat estimates by 2 cents.

My #3 pick is Applied Magnetics (APM), although the street doesn't agree at the moment. Earnings for Qtr and FY ending Sept 97 will be reported either Thurs or Friday. RDRT (larger recording head company than APM) just missed estimates by 2-5 cents, depending if you count a special charge, so the pressure is on for APM earnings.

I don't really have a 4th pick, but I'm currently holding COMS call options, which got ambushed a couple days ago, although COMS will come back IMO. I'll hope the price goes back to 54-55 by Nov expiry, at which time I'll dump them.
