It seems like in the past the vetting process was provided by the opponent. If someone is a false hero like Kerry, then the heroic Veterans for Freedom step up and make sure everyone knowns that he is a poser. This time nobody really picked up the theme.

McCain ad a false sense of honor that prevented him from attacking Obama for all of his flaws. Even if he had, McCain didn't have much money to get is message. McCain stuck with public financing while Obama lied about taking public financing. Besides McCain was the democrats choice of a Republican candidate they could beat.

To the best of my knowledge this is the first time a poser came this close to usurping the role of President. We still don't know if the SCOTUS will fix it or not.

We don't know if he is a poser because he is hiding that information. We do know that there appears to be information that he defrauded the government by applying for (and presumably receiving) aid for foreign students. He may have also defrauded the Indonesian government.

It is possible that he is only guilty of fraud and that he is a natural citizen. We do know that he is acting like he is not.
