Irrelevant doesn't mean "unimportant". It can be very important in different contexts or when addressing a different question. The irrelevant point can even be much more important than the point being considered. The threat of terrorism is a much more important issue than a speeding ticket, but it isn't relevant, I'd hardly get off from a speeding charge by arguing that the cops and courts should focus on the more important issue.

If Bush has caused the net destruction of vast amounts of capital, that would be a very important issue (unless perhaps you "live on the moon or say a desert island")

But it has nothing to do with GM causing the destruction of a vast amount of capital (unless Bush and GM destroyed the same capital together, and I don't think your claiming that).

As a defense for GM, its like a murderer saying "well he killed someone too". The fact that there is a 2nd murderer might be an important concern, but unless the murders are connected it isn't relevant to the 1st murderers case.

Similarly with wasting money and destroying wealth, "he did it too", doesn't mean we should help GM continue to do it.
