It may not be in the rulebook, but I'd be amazed if there are any progressives out there (the definition I have been using--very liberal) that favor flat taxes.

This is an interesting question. I think of myself as a "progressive" (well perhaps a progressive pragmatist), but I certainly favor a flat tax - a consumption tax. I think many progressives should think in those terms. Remember my definition of progressive and the meaning as found in most dictionaries, is not the same as extreme liberal.

Is stem cell research a progressive idea? I sure think it is - as do many republicans. Is energy independence and green energy sources a progressive idea? Again I as do many republicans think it is. Neither progressive nor any specific tax idea is a monopoly of the extreme left - the extreme liberal.
