TA "Bulls Hang On" by PaulShread 12/12 w/charts
Stock market bulls are showing resilience despite some pretty dismal news.

It's been a wobbly week for stocks after last week's impressive breakouts, but at least the bulls are hanging on.

The indexes are now trapped between last week's broken downtrend lines and their 50-day averages, which have become important resistance here. On the plus side, they're holding on despite some pretty dismal news, but a close above those 50-day averages would be even better (see charts).

SignalWatch(EdDowns) DOW Rebound from Lows..
Dow drops 300 points at Open, but quietly rallies to the Close.

The Dow is winding up within a clear symmetrical triangle that could spark the next big breakout move.

Today's lower boundary was redefined today and the upper boundary has been holding firm for several weeks. We could see a redefinition of the triangle before the actual breakout occurs, however.

Watch 9,000 and 8,350 for signs of a major breakout ahead. Watch 8,700 for early signs of strength and 8,400 for early selling pressure Monday.
