"please point me to financially successful alt energy investments from the past" No answer. You bring up the doctom boom and go on to mention amazing wealth overall was created. That is because some of the dotcom companies were successful in the marketplace. If alternative energy ever are truly successful as investments, it won't be because of some government action. If government bureaucrats and politicians could run industries successfully and pick winning technologies, the Soviet Union wouldn't have fallen.
