It isn't the word alone but the institution, it represents which is important. In different languages a different word is used but the issue remains the same.

Well if the word really doesn't matter, what are we arguing about? We both agree gay couples are entitled to the institution if not the word.

And by the way, this is why there will be gay marriage. The anti-gay marriage side is so thoroughly defeated they're reduced to defending the word. They've capitulated on the institution, conceding civil unions. They're defending a tiny, nearly meaningless piece of territory at this point. That's why they've already lost.

That said, why do i think they are entitled to the word? Because marriage is a basic civil right of man. To grant it to straights while denying it to gays is discrimination. The state either needs to get out of the marriage business or stop discriminating against homosexuals.

This is another reason the anti side will lose. In the end, civil rights always win out...
