<<. A little worrisome that WDC is talking of stilll incresing theirs.>>

You certainly get a different read on the high end depending on whether you listened to the SEG, QNTM or WDC CC... I did. I would NOT have gotten the impression that the high end demand "turmoil" existed from Haggerty of WDC. He did make comments that they were in a better posn in the 9GB market because of the 1" drive... Does this really make that much difference? As far as I can tell the Atlas 2 is 1.6" high(?) now, the Viking 2 will be 1.0" as the Viking is now, but they will double the capacity to 9GB. The Atlas 3 will still be 1.6, but can run 18G.

QNTM talked about speeding the transition the the "new" product lines as the ultimate solution.(besides scaling back production) What advantages do they offer? I see shorter drive for same capacity, maybe a little quicker seek(7.5 vs 8), same rpm, maybe a bit faster Media DTR, less components for the same capacity... Anyone know why they are pushing the new product line as their "solution?"
