Oh, I donno....

You've still got to get to Central Asia somehow... if everything must be airlifted it drives costs WAY UP.

(Being able to drive heavy equipment in from Europe no doubt would have some large advantages.)

However, no doubt either or both Central Asian routes would prove out to be MUCH superior to the risks incurred driving through the bad lands of 'ungoverned North West Pakistan.

Also, if we are to have any hope of eventual success, it is IMPERATIVE that we not give Pakistan a stranglehold over our military effort. So, seen in that light, one or both new routes become absolutely CRITICAL to the mission.
