Re: "there have been a multitude of lawsuits filed in regards to the question of whether or not President-elect Barack Obama is in fact eligible under the “natural born” provision of the Constitution of the United States of America to be the President of the United States"
Yep!
Most have been quickly dismissed in courts all across the United States, but FOUR made it all the way (as appeals, after being denied by other federal courts) to the U.S. Supreme Court.
As we sit today --- TWO of the four have been dismissed (formally ending them), and the two last remain....
Re: "One of the cases filed with the Supreme Court also raised the circumstances of Obama’s time during his youth in Indonesia, where he was listed as having Indonesian citizenship."
Yep!
And, one of the OTHER 'official Indonesian government documents' (his enrollment form for first grade) ALSO described in one of the legal filings before the U.S. Supreme Court listed his OFFICIAL BIRTH PLACE as "Hawaii". Go figure! <g>
Re: "My initial hunch was that Obama was in fact not born in Kenya, but that the name on the birth certificate was not “Barack Obama” but some other, possibly “Barry” with perhaps even a different last name (his mother’s?). ...Such speculation is obviously conjectural."
(Right... but, hey, since we're all off 'speculating' in thin air then how about this 'speculation'? Maybe he was really named 'Reagan' and THAT'S the real source of concern! Or, perhaps he was born in a nutrient vat on Mars and has a third arm growing out of the middle of his back? <GGG>)
Re: "There was some whispering about Senator John McCain’s own natural-born citizenship status and POTUS eligibility early on and to his credit he produced his long form birth certificate in record time putting such questions to rest very quickly...."
This guy seems to have a selective memory or something if he thinks that questions about McCain's ability to qualify for "natural born status" were "quickly resolved" long ago... considering that TWO of the cases filed with the Supreme Court (one which they dismissed just yesterday, and the other just last Friday) formally asserted that John McCain *was not qualified* to serve as President of the United States because he was not "natural born" (& neither were Obama, or the Socialist Party's candidate, for good measure. <g>)
Doesn't sound like a question 'long laid to rest' as far as everyone goes.... :-)
Re: "was listed as having Indonesian citizenship. Indonesia did not allow dual citizenship at that time,"
SO WHAT?
Indonesian law doesn't apply in the good ole U.S. of A. They could make him an honorary Moose and it wouldn't mean the slightest thing in the U.S. <G>
Re: "... raising the possibility of Obama’s mother having given up his U.S. citizenship."
Not unless she FORMALLY swore an oath before a competent U.S. Embassy official (or Court of proper jurisdiction in the United States) officially renouncing her U.S. citizenship! (Because that is the only way to 'give up' American citizenship.) And... that would have only given up HER American citizenship - not his! He could not legally give up his own American citizenship until he reached the legal age of 18.
Seems like --- since stuff like that has to be done in a formal venue and all... that there would be *official records* of that if his 'mother had given up her citizenship'! (We shouldn't have any trouble finding official AMERICAN GOVERNMENT records, should we?)
But then, hey... we're 'just speculating', right?
Reality need not intrude. <g> |
