I see that you didn't read Johan's remarks. One of the things SAP likes is fast Cache Coherency. HT3.1 between the CPUs helps a lot over HT2.0. It is also why if cache coherency is not completely working, you can get high SAP scores, yet at times its unreliable for general use. Another thing that SAP likes is fast I/O. Another thing that is boosted by HT3.1 over HT2.0.

The fact that 8 socket servers are working with Opteron and Nehalem doesn't seem to even have 4S scores much less 8S ones should give you pause about the 2S scores.

You should also notice that simply by going from HP to Sun, Shanghai picked up 12% at the 8S level at the same clock. And since Phenom II is working at 3.0GHz, Shanghai will likely work there too relatively soon. So since clock likely would be at 3GHz for a 11% gain times a 12% gain for configuration times 5 boosts of 7% (what happens with I/O bound applications with HT speed boosts of 200MHz) would net a 74% boost. Thus a 3GHz Opteron 2390 in a HT3.1 server would get to 24027. It would go higher with the two free HT ports being ganged between the CPUs, like what Dell and Sun are talking about, for another 10-50% boost to 26430 and up. DDR3 would likely boost that some as well for a kicker when 4S Nehalem comes out.

Of course in 6 months, when the 2S Xeon 5570 supposedly comes out, if it makes it, we shall see how it compares to Opteron at that time with third parties testing it.
