I suspect history will record that the dead period between administrations caused fatal delays in govt action to halt the downward momentum, and that by end of january it was too late to stop the 20-ft snowball with a couple of spades.

Preventing deflation is not the same thing as preventing a really bad recession.

Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing... IMO and according to the Austrians, we need the biggest possible snowball that doesn't permanently wreck the economic infrastructure. Things can get a lot worse and still stay within that limit.
