Having lived in the high mts of colo for 5 yrs and driving in 17 miles and back to work weekdays from where I lived, driving in the snow isn't any big deal for us. In fact, I may go out later on today to do some shopping. I just wish the less accomplished snow drivers would stay home.
Same with me, having grown up in Michigan and then lived in Vermont for 6 years.
The 250 mile drive yesterday was tiring, but overall not bad. My Suburban with Les Schwab tires that have been siped handles very well in the snow. I didn't slip or skid once yesterday.
Of course, today, on the way into work, I was following a Volvo that drove all of 10 mph. We came to an area near the music building on the Whitman College Campus. She pulled over to the right and stopped. No turn signal. I naturally assumed it was so I could go around her. As I started to swing around her, she started into a left turn into the driveway of a parking lot, turning directly in front of me!!! I jammed on the brakes and the ABS kicked in. Another second or two and I'd have either T-boned her or she'd have run into the side of my car.
I very nearly jumped out and yelled at her, "your car has a very nifty function. There's a little lever on the left side of your steering wheel called a turn signal. If you push it down, your left blinker flashes to let people behind you know you intend to make a left turn!" As it was, I just went on my way.
Sheesh. I am convinced that the people who attend and work at Whitman College are dunces. |
