In the old days the town folk used to deputize a bunch of men and charge them with keeping the unemployed from wandering into town and trying to settle down. Anybody with a job feared that somebody else would come in and offer to do it for half the price. So folks were encouraged to keep moving and any tent cities that sprung up were burnt down and the homeless were chased away to the next town with clubs if needed.

I am guessing that since our federal government is much "wiser" now that if we get to that point again (25% unemployment?) that this time the vagrants will be rounded up and put into special camps "for their own good".

By the way, please keep me posted on the Canadian economy if you have any thoughts. It is bad, I am guesing, but the future does not look quite as grim as the US? I am in the process of setting up an escape route...getting papers in orders and such.
