I don't think anyone (well, I wasn't) was saying that writing books is a qualification; as I already said, I was correcting the post that said dismissively that she wrote a children's book as if she has done nothing else. She actually has done quite a bit. Also, her books were on privacy and the Bill of Rights, issues which would be relevant for a senator, and which indicate a broader knowledge than most people have of some important issues. I know there is an antipathy for attorneys here, but the Senate is, after all, a legislative branch, so it isn't completely unexpected to find so many lawyers in its hallowed halls.

That Obama wrote books wasn't particularly suasive either. I agree.
And I agree about Franken, but I've never read his books. I just find him crass and egotistical.
