HOW I LOSE A POUND A WEEK

Eat moderately when hungry. Don't go hungry. Enjoy your food!

I live alone and eat what I please. As long as I don't eat any wheat, sugar, or corn. I also stay away from beef, potatoes and rice. I pick my meals based on what I like to eat. You should do the same. What you pick will be your basic food for the rest of your life. Make it foods you like. You can increase them or add a few when you get to your stable weight. But plan on never going back to your old foods. I start with four main items, and make them up in bulk once a week. I have the oatmeal for breakfast, and vary the other three.

OATMEAL - 1/2 cup of oats, 2 Tbls ea of oat bran and ground flax seed, dash of salt, raisins, walnuts and one heaping Tbls of Splenda. I fill seven plastic bowls with this, then add 1 1/2 cup of water to one each day and microwave 3 minutes. Add skim milk and eat.

TURKEY CHILI - Package of ground turkey, chopped onion, 5 heaping tbls of McCormick chili powder, 3 cups of beans, Two 15 1/2 oz cans of tomatoes. Cook turkey in olive oil in deep 12"skillet with onion and chili powder, add beans and tomatoes. Serve with some shredded cheese.

LAMB STEW - With olive oil, cook 2 chopped onions in stew pot with a chopped head of celery and at least 4 chopped carrots. Cut a leg of lamb in half and freeze 1/2. Put the cut pieces of the other half in the pot with 8 cups of water. Cover and cook until lamb falls apart. Take lamb out and cut into small pieces then add back with a cup and 1/2 of barley. Add larger chunks of 4 more carrots with salt, pepper, and McCormick Italian seasoning. Cook about an hour and correct the seasoning. This will be quite bland, and need a lot of seasoning to pep it up. Add water as needed to keep it very thick. It reminds me of the old "Campbell Scotch Broth soup," undiluted. Only much better. Make sure it's got some "taste" to it.

PEASE PORRIDGE - Very thick split pea soup. In your stew pot, cook 2 chopped onions, chopped head of celery and four carrots in olive oil, then add one or two ham hocks with Italian seasoning and simmer in 8 cups of water until they fall apart. Take out the ham hocks and dice the meat to put back in with two 16 oz sacks of split peas. Simmer until done, at least 90 minutes. Add water as needed. Then serve "as is" or run though blender. You can add a diced slice of ham or diced can of spam. Spice this up!

These are all made very thick. The last three will congeal to solid in the Fridge when cold. And keep for a long time. I take out a couple of scoops and heat in microwave for lunch and dinner.

At this point many of you are saying, "where's the greens?" Hey, I'm a guy. I use onion, celery and carrots and take vitamin C and a multivitamin. Get off my back. I am not a rabbit.

I eat several 3-egg omelets w/cheese and salsa each week for a change. Cook up a couple of diced, cored, peeled apples with 1/4 cup of water and a level tbls of Splenda for a dessert. Eat just a little of this every serving. Try diet Strawberry jello mixed with sliced strawberries.

DRINKS: I use a "Mr Coffee" coffee maker for two cups a day. I use their Ice Tea maker to make a gallon of sweet tea and keep a glass of it by me to drink from at all times. Use "Hibiscus" tea if you can find it. I add two big squirts of "Real Lemon" and three heaping tbls of Splenda to each gallon. Makes an "Arnold Palmer."

My favorite drink is my Smoothie. 2 cups of skim milk, 1 heaping tbls of Splenda, squirt of vanilla, w/ 1/2 frozen banana and 7 large frozen strawberries in my blender. If this is not ice cream thick, I add some ice cubes. I broke two cheap blenders with this mix. I now use a Cuisinart one. I have one mid-afternoon and one at night. Makes a big difference to me. You can add a scoop of Soy protein powder to this, but it will put weight on you.

NUTS: I use walnuts in my oatmeal. Eat a SMALL handful of cashews or almonds between meals if hungry.
