Brazil: November unemployment at 7.6 percent

(AP:RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil) Officials say Brazil's November unemployment was the lowest for that month in six years.

The government's IBGE statistics institute says unemployment in November stood at 7.6 percent. That is down from 8.2 percent unemployment in the same month last year.

But the IGBE's top unemployment researcher Cimar Azeredo says Friday the figure is somewhat disappointing.

He says researchers were expecting November's unemployment to be lower than October's, when the level was 7.5 percent.

But Azeredo says this month's result shows the global financial crisis has not hit Brazil's labor market.

Despite the crisis, consumer spending remains high in Brazil and the country's economy is expected to expand by 5 percent this year.
