12/19/08 update
ROBERT's portfolio is our Winner! Congratulations ROBERT!
As of today's close, ROBERT's portfolio shows a 3.52% YTD gain and is the only Contest portfolio in the black for the year. Second place honors go to GENE's portfolio, with a -1.39% YTD loss. And, including the top two portfolios, a total of 7 of the 33 Contest portfolios beat the Nasdaq Biotech Index YTD performance. Kudos to them as well.
Although the Nasdaq Composite Index had a small loss for the final contest week, the Nasdaq Biotech Index actually produced a decent gain. At Friday's close, the NCI was down -41.02-% YTD (vs. -41.91% YTD a week ago), while the NBI was down -13.61% YTD (vs. down -17.79% YTD a week ago). The Contest median also had a positive final week, closing down -31.63% YTD (vs. down -33.44% YTD a week ago).
The charity ROBERT chose at the Contest start is the Red Cross of Lee County, Alabama. ROBERT, please post ASAP if you're sticking with this choice. Also details about your charity pick (e.g., web & snail mail address).
Happy Holidays to all!
