To be sure, I would have no problem with using torture if it were a "Jack Bauer" moment or against any known terrorist. None, whatsoever, and in fact, I would be pleased to perform the torture myself. I think it should be used against such individuals freely and without hesitation. OTOH, I understand the political issues that require it to be handled in the background.

I think the above comments are disturbing. Many of us have sado-masochistic tendencies. However, they are to be discouraged, not encouraged. The fact that you would be "pleased" to perform the torture is why torture is unacceptable to the Geneva Conventions and any civilized society. Very little is ever gained by playing into the baser sides of our nature. I think you've putting much ended this conversation.
