I agree. I don't. 50 cents a gallon would do nothing about consumption and just hurt the people who can afford it the least, in their transportation costs and what they pay for everything else. While it wouldn't effect the behaviour of the truly wasteful who wouldn't blink at 50 cents a gallon. You have to tax and incentivize the energy clients. Nail the folks that drive the stupid SUVs for their true cost to our society. Reward the Prius or Ford Focus driver for being good citizens.
