Your are shorting banks...with the FED on the other side with all those helicopters ?

Besides putting money into the banks, the FED has the legal ability to support the bank stock prices, if it determines it is needed. Meaning, they can legally buy every share of Citibank. I expect the FED was not happy with the price of Citibank recently - and both the FED and Treasury have said they will do whatever it takes to recover.

Appearances count, and the FED will not let the banks look like they are failing. Other sectors, sure - no one is going to panic if Applebee's restaurant goes broke.
