I did some rough yield calculations of the Phenom die over at Ihub that may interest the thread regarding the rationale of using triples and duals from quad dies.

Actually I think AMD have indirectly given a DD of 0.35 since then

This gives a yield of 40.3% (82). Adjusting the previous values of c(probability of a successful core) and u(probability of a successful uncore) to 0.853 and 0.762 we get

Prob(QC) = c^4*u = 0.403 or 82 quad-core die
Prob(TC) = 4c^3*(1-c)*u = 0.278 or 57 tri-core die
Prob(DC) = 6c^2*(1-c)^2*u = 0.072 or 15 dual-core die
Prob(SC) = 4c*(1-c)^3*u = 0.008 or 2 single-core die
Prob(dud)= (1-c)^4*u + (1-u) = 0.238 or 49 no yields

Effective yield has gone up to 154 (75%) with more quads and less triples/duals/singles/no-yields.
