IMO, you are unseemly harsh on the victims of the Madoff fraud..

Many of the individuals accumulated their wealth from sources other than the financial world (book deals, inheritances, saving over a long period from their mundane jobs, etc),and were not "sophisticated" investors regardless of their net worth.

A number are ruined, and many will suffer a substantial loss with no hope of recovery. If Bre-x was unfair and a scandal, then Madoff is no less a disgrace simply because he stole from what were ,once, deep pockets.

""" I have no sympathy at all for the Madoff investors as most were wealthy before they bought in.""'

I think it is sad to have the results of you life's work and efforts( or your father's) stolen by guile and deceit regardless of the amount.I can empathize with them..

here's a headline i remember though i got out with a meager profit."Sugar is not so sweet for Conti Commodity"
