Lots of use in the 1-2Kya range (think Hockeystick graph) substantial input in the 12Kya range (think last ice age) and still plenty of use going back 400K (think ice core data). I suppose there is some impact from studies going back 400M to 1B years in terms of looking at radically different atmospheres and climates for which we do have some paleo data. You can find papers and graphs on climatic subjects for all of these age ranges by googling. All of this data is used to understand the underlying physics, chemistry and biology of the planet's oceans, surface and atmosphere which impacts the models. Nothing is done in a vacuum.
