you know, xbrit....i *think* i understand your point....

but you gotta realize....

this ain't england

in fact, think of the UAW as "england" and consider the objection to the auto bailout (something like 3 to 1) and realize that once americans finally comprehend that the working poor are financing the luxurious pay and pension packages of the unions (UAW, calpers, name the over-indulged union or demographic <boomers>) of your choice....

people think that just because we haven't had social and civil unrest for the past 40 years (generation) or so, it can't or won't happen again...

well take a look at greece, sweden, russia...in fact i believe the entirety of europe will become a powder keg as younger *workers* (those who actually have jobs) live a lifestyle by FAR less than the people they support...

think it cannot happen here?

think again

btw, did you notice that austria lowered its voting age to 16 in 2007? i expect to see more of that as political parties attempt to snag the allegiance of younger voters...they did that to balance out *seniors*.....

the younger generation understands they are being tagged to pay for a lifestyle for *seniors* that they cannot achieve under the best of circumstances....forget about a global recession

its gonna get ugly, fast.
