Hyundai, which had the reputation of building the worst POS in existence, has been able to chip away at American car makers market share during a time when the American car had a far better reputation than Hyundai did.

You have made my point...Huyndai today produces an outstanding car with the best warranty in the land and they charge a pretty penny for it. Look, you are just too ideologically inflexible to get the points I am making...or you get them, but won't yield. I have admitted on several occasions that the unions need to give back...I don't argue this point. When an industry is in distress, everyone needs to give back...management and workers.

My argument however goes much further...even with these givebacks, over time Detroit has to lead, or they will continue to shrink, go far below critical mass and become unable to compete. That's entirely on the shoulders of leadership/management.
