Why do you own one of the most expensive, expensive to repair, and most unreliable cars made?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In spite of what the articles says, its the best car I have ever owned and not expensive at all to maintain. Maybe BMW has gone downhill since 1999 when I bought mine.

Listen, the reason most people buy specific cars is a mix of practicality and self-image. People 'wear' their cars, like clothing. There are many, many people (especially on the west coast) that wouldn't be caught dead owning an American car.

And that is not a rational, pragmatic decision. It's a decision based on marketing and years of conditioning. A small Ford car may cost half of what your BMW costs over it's lifetime, it may be more reliable, but when you are sitting at a stoplight and someone glances at you what is their impression? People care very much what other people think of them. You are not exempt.

And that's more of a problem for the big three than quality. How do you make a Ford or a Chevy a 'cool' car to own when people on public threads call them a POS and constantly reinforce that image? Hell that is one of the most difficult marketing jobs in the world.
