Hart does not know his mining or his geography. Hemlo was not a town. Name comes from a siding (no residences) on the CPR. Within a mile or so East of the discovery was a Shell gas station (and Greyhound bus stop)at the turn-off for the Manitouwadge highway. Across the street from the gas station was a motel (trailer construction, originally purchased for boom surrounding Expo 67 in Montreal.) Most winters, the gas station and motel were both closed. No residents!

Hemlo was a world-class gold discovery, and a major contributor to the Canadian economy, but I take issue with "the biggest, richest gold find in the Americas"
