I coulda done the same. And would have enjoyed it much more I'm sure.

Actually my job as the social worker's clerk was because I was in a hold status for OCS. I was in a radio operator's course learning code and that was going to be my job in the Army when in the last week of school a 1LT stuck his head in the door and said "Anybody here want to be an Officer?".

Well, I had just been on KP the day before for what was the 5th time in 3 weeks and instead of seeing the big picture all I could think of was "No KP!" So I raised my hand.

A week later my class graduated and half went to Korea and the other half to Germany and I went to a hold status with the social worker, but 15 months later I was an Infantry Officer in the Mekong Delta!
