Such a Big Brother system doesn't tell anyone where you are because it tracks the vehicle, not the person. Anyway, it would be quite good to be tracked so people could see where I am by simply logging into the website. SPOT, the Globalstar tracking system and calling for help system, costs $100 a year which people choose to pay just so that can be done. SPOT would be a good basis for doing such road tolling.

Mq, do you have SPOT? I'd like to track your movements, so if you would just press the check-in button occasionally we can know you're ok in your travels.

PS - I venture into some pretty remote areas and have thought about getting a SPOT myself.

PPS - what is behind the Oregon move is the fear that increasing use of Hybrid vehicles will cut into gas tax revenues. For that matter, people abandoning their SUV's in favor of, say, Honda Civics, would cut into those revenues as well. Perhaps the state should just slap a 10% excise tax on the purchase of any car that gets more than 30 mpg?
